This was the second year running that it was held at Castleton (an old airfield between Thurso and John o’Groats) which made an ideal setting. Everybody enjoyed the week except for the fact that the wind was blowing a “hooley” – local parlance. Now I looked that up in Chambers Dictionary and it says “soft and gentle.” Absolutely no comment!!! Wendover is a lovely range but it does not give us practice in shooting in a gale. Janet Nicholl shot well enough to be chosen to shoot for the English Women’s team in the Home Countries International and Angus Williamson was a reserve for the English Main Team. Fred Davies won a medal in one of the competitions. Sadly that was the extent of our glory! I must add that the fresh crab rolls at Lybster were wonderful….
Next year the meeting is at Lauder, so hopefully more shooters from Bucks will attend, being just over the border. The squadded aggregate is shot on alternate days, so there is plenty of time for sightseeing etc. if you make it a holiday.
Come on! Where’s your spirit of adventure?
